"Echoes of Justice" is a series launched by Herrera Dance Project in 2024, created as an impact statement to the community about the injustice of law enforcement that led to the murder of Santos Rodriguez on July 24, 1973, in Dallas, Texas. The rest, they say, is history; it was followed by a 77-minute production that told the story of the horrific event at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24, 2022. Now going into its third season, the series has grown from a dinner-time conversation to a community event, made possible by the support of the DFW community.
Herrera Dance Project, though, wanted it to be more than that; we wanted to create a way to honor those who are advocating and actively fighting against these injustices and have dedicated their lives to standing up against those who perpetuate them throughout our communities. Thus, "The Echoes of Justice Award" was created to honor those who do so much for us selflessly and without seeking recognition. It's our way of saying thank you. When others surrender, you step up to the plate for us all. These voices change lives, create a stronger society, and cultivate a better world.
